Mission Statement

The Waukesha County Community Foundation is a pool of permanent endowment and project funds created primarily by and for the people of Waukesha County to provide grant support to charitable organizations. The intent of the Foundation is to serve a broad spectrum of community needs.

Roles of the Foundation

Grantmaking
The Foundation seeks to serve a broad spectrum of community needs through its grantmaking activities. Grants are made from the Community Grants Fund following evaluation of formal proposals submitted by nonprofit organizations in a competitive process. The Grants Review Committee makes grant recommendations to the Board of Directors, which makes final grant distributions. The Board of Directors and Grants Review Committee are comprised of people who live or work in Waukesha County.

As a community foundation, the Foundation gives preference to proposals that respond to important needs within its geographic area of emphasis--Waukesha County. At this time, the Directors do not foresee grants being made to needs outside of Waukesha County using Community Grants Funds.

Grants will not be made to individuals or for religious, governmental or political purposes.

Endowment Funds

Gifts to the Foundation are permanently endowed, meaning only investment earnings from the funds are used for grants, ensuring that the funds will last forever.
Funds can be established to accomplish a broad or specific charitable intent, depending on the wishes of the donor.
The Foundation accepts all of the investment and administrative duties, assuring donors that all reporting and legal matters are handled properly, and freeing donors from these tasks.
As a public charity, the Foundation offers the highest level of tax deductibility for charitable giving.
All funds are professionally and carefully managed to ensure ongoing grant availability.

Project Funds

The Foundation also manages assets for major community projects like public art and community libraries and recreation facilities. Contributions to such projects are held in short-term investment vehicles until payments are needed for the project costs. Project funds are non-endowed, not intended to establish permanent charitable investment funds.
