More New Funds Created by Charitable People

In spite of a discouraging economic environment, new funds have been added in recent months.  “I continue to talk with so many people who may establish a charitable fund once things settle down a bit,” notes president Dave Schultz.  “But others aren’t waiting before they establish funds with the Foundation.”

A new unrestricted fund created by recently retired superintendent David Schmidt and his wife Bobbie will benefit various schools in the district through the annual Waukesha Education Foundation grants process.  Many contributors made gifts in honor of Schmidt’s years of service to the district, and those gifts are also in the new fund.

A special donor advised fund was established by James and Shirley Klauser of Pewaukee.  This fund will benefit organizations recommended by the Klausers and has identified long-term recipients as part of the Klausers’ planning process.

United Way in Waukesha County recently paid special tribute to executive director Jayne Thoma on the occasion of her 20th anniversary of leading the organization by seeking gifts in her honor and establishing the Jayne Thoma Fund among the Forever Funds of United Way in Waukesha County.

Joyce and Bob Winchell of Waukesha have created a new designated fund named the Winchell Family Phantom Lake YMCA Camp Fund to make charitable gifts forever in appreciation for their family's multiple generations of camp participation.  The camp, located in Mukwonago, was founded in 1896.

The Waukesha County Community Foundation is a permanent pool of endowment funds created in 1999 to assist charitable donors in providing grant support to nonprofit organizations, with an emphasis on Waukesha County.  The Foundation has contributed over $3.5 million since its inception.  A volunteer board of directors leads the Foundation, which granted over $1,100,000 to charitable organizations in 2007.
