Women and Girls Funds

In November 2004, the Board of Directors of the Waukesha County Community Foundation established the Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County. Distributions from the Fund are directed toward support of programs and projects that benefit women and girls in Waukesha County.

Mission Statement

The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County seeks to aid and enrich the lives of women and girls in our community by raising permanent endowment funds.

Objectives

  1. Educate our community and ourselves about philanthropic issues affecting women, young women and girls and their diverse needs.
  2. Identify and involve people and institutions that are interested in contributing to the Women and Girls Fund.
  3. Award grants to charitable organizations which will address the needs of women and girls. 
  4. Celebrate the accomplishments of women, girls and the organizations which serve them through the Women of Distinction program.

Local Couple Announces $25,000 Challenge Grant to The Women’s and Girls Fund of Waukesha County.


A Delafield couple recently established a $25,000 challenge grant with the intent of prompting existing and new donors at every level to give, or increase giving, to the Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County.The challenge is now in effect and will match all new or increased gifts to the Women and Girls Fund on a one-to-one basis through May 2012.  To view the full press release see the link below.

The Women and Girls Fund Board of Trustees is responsible for raising funds, receiving and reviewing grant proposals, and making grant distributions that best fulfill the Fund’s mission and purpose.

Anti Bullying Symposium
The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County hosted a symposium in Fall 2010 for educators, students, professionals, parents and others interested in ending bullying in our schools and society. 

Grants 

The Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County reached its first major goal of raising $1 million, allowing the Fund to reach more women and girls in need, and to provide more significant grants. Contributors of amounts of $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000 will be honored for their foresight and generosity. Pledges can be paid over 3-5 years.

In addition to contributions from individual supporters, the assets for the Fund will grow through the highly successful Women of Distinction Awards program.

Women and Girls Fund Grants

  • Grants to nonprofit organizations with programs serving women and girls are made through a competitive grant review process. Over $300,000 has already been provided to improve the lives of women and girls in Waukesha County.

2011 Grants Totaled $51,000

  • $4,000 to Family Service of Waukesha County for Female Facilitators for New Horizon Programs
  • $2,500 to HOPE Center to provide basic needs to area children whose families struggle with poverty
  • $3,500 to Interfaith Senior Programs for Seasons of Care for Older Women and Adult Women with Disabilities
  • $6,000 to La Casa de Esperanza for the Family Self-Sufficiency Program
  • $7,500 to Lake Area Free Clinic for Women & Girls Health Maintenance Program
  • $2,000 to LifeStriders Therapeutic Riding Center for Rider/Participant Scholarship Fund
  • $15,000 to Parents Place for Parenting for Success as a Single Parent
  • $3,000 to Waukesha Community Art Project for Free Art & Leadership After School Program for Middle School Students
  • $7,500 to The Women's Center for Sexual Assault and Abuse Counseling

 

Annual Due Date for Grant Requests 

Complete requests in hard copy are due March 1.

Eligibility

All 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizations providing significant programs to benefit women and girls in Waukesha County are invited to apply. Grants will not be made to individuals, or for religious, governmental, or political purposes.

 

Proposal Content

Proposals should be no more than three pages in length, single-spaced.  Please include:

  • narrative description of your organization;
  • narrative description of the program for which support is being requested;
  • narrative description of the program’s intended impact on women and girls in Waukesha County;  
  • amount being requested and how you would fund this program in future years; and
  • a program budget.

Attachments should include:

  • proof of your nonprofit status (IRS determination letter);
  • current listing of the board of directors;
  • current year operating budget; and
  • audit report from the most recent fiscal year.
